The Gift of the Magi Quotes

The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry is a holiday favorite. The cherished moments in this work have become a Christmas tradition both in the original and many iterations. Do you remember the quotes? Perhaps youve read or heard the lines without even realizing it. Here are a few quotes from the short story and here are some questions to think about. Quotes Which instigates the moral reflection that life is made up of sobs, sniffles, and smiles, with sniffles predominating.Suddenly she whirled from the window and stood before the glass. her eyes were shining brilliantly, but her face had lost its color within twenty seconds. She got out her curling irons and lighted the gas and went to work repairing the ravages made by generosity added to love. Which is always a tremendous task, dear friends--a mammoth task. His eyes were fixed upon Della, and there was an expression in them that she could not read, and it terrified her. It was not anger, nor surprise, nor disapproval, nor horror, nor any of the sentiments that she had been prepared for. He simply stared at her fixedly with that peculiar expression on his face.A mathematician or a wit would give you the wrong answer. The magi brought valuable gifts, but that was not among them. This dark assertion will be illuminated later on.And here I have lamely related to you the uneventful chronicle of two foolish children in a flat who most unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house. But in a last word to the wise of these days let it be said that of all who give gifts these two were the wisest. O all who give and receive gifts, such as they are wisest. Everywhere they are wisest. They are the magi.

The American Civil War Exploded In 1861 After Several Decades

The American Civil War exploded in 1861 after several decades of tension boiling between the southern and northern states over contagious disputes including slavery, westward expansion and the federal authority over the states’ rights. The presidential election of 1860 and the triumph of Republican Abraham Lincoln, who was an ardent supporter of abolition led to the secession of seven southern states that formed the Confederate States of America. The other four states joined after the civil war had kicked off. Historical war manifested several years of ruthless battle at Bull Run (Manassas), Vicksburg, Gettysburg, Antietam, and Chancellorsville. Factories could then quickly manufacture guns, uniforms, ammunitions and other products needed to sustain the ar my. In this case, the north could easily replenish and supply its army on the battlefield. On the other hand, the Union States had weaknesses that hampered their operations. To start with, they had to strategize and plan attacks, building a reputation of aggression in the eyes of some. Moreover, they did not understand the southern terrain like their rivals (Caldwell International Military Geology and Geography Conference, 2011, p. 155). Also, the Union States needed to be victorious in their plan, while the Confederates had to rebuff any attack as long as their rights, land, and property were secure. Therefore, the socio-economic and political pressure to succeed in such a war was huge for the Union. Also, without the best knowledge of the easiest routes in and out of the battle zones, most of their operations were hindered, and that increased their vulnerability. The South, on the other hand, had better leaders including Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson, who held senior positions in the military before the onset of the battle (Cozzens, 2012, pp. 91). Night Mother by Kurt Vonnegut Free Essays

Mother Night What intrigued me the most when reading Mother Night, by Kurt Vonnegut, were the quotes. He says things in a way that really make you step back and think. You could almost tell this book ‚a„? s story by discussing some of the quotes. We will write a custom essay sample on Night Mother by Kurt Vonnegut or any similar topic only for you Order Now In Mother Night, apolitical expatriate American playwright Howard W. Campbell, Jr. refashions himself as a Nazi propagandist in order to pass coded messages on to the U. S. generals and preserve his marriage to a German woman ‚aâ‚ ¬? their "nation of two," as he calls it. But in serving multiple masters, Campbell ends up ruining his life and becoming an unwitting inspiration to bigots. quot;We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be. " Vonnegut introduces this as the moral of his book. "There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too. " It’s never been more true: Left or right, Christian or Muslim, those convinced they’re doing violence in service of a higher power and against an irretrievably inhuman enemy are the most dangerous creatures of all. But is Howard really such a bad man? All throughout reading the book, I would ask myself that question. No he doesn ‚a„? t seem to show much emotion, but doesn ‚a„? t that in a way seem understandable when you think about all he ‚a„? s done and seen? If he were to show emotion, he would go crazy. I know I would. Though he does seem to have a conscience, somehow, somewhere, deep down inside he is trapped. Trapped inside of the mess he ‚a„? s gotten himself into. I think he knows to that there is no way out, so he remains as this man he has pretended to be for so many years. Howard writes his story from a jail cell in old Jerusalem in 1961, while awaiting a fair trial for his war crimes by the republic of Israel. He is has a different guard for different parts of the day and night. One of them is Mengel. You are the only man I ever heard of, ‚N? Mengel says to me this morning, ‚Nswho has a bad conscience about what he did in the war. Everybody else, no matter what he did, is sure a good man could not have acted in any other way. ‚N? ‚NsWhat makes you think I have a bad conscience ‚N? I said. ‚NsThe way you sleep, the way you dream, ‚N? e said. Howard tells Mengel about New York. ‚Ns ‚NsNew York must be Heaven, ‚N? said Mengel. ‚NsIt might well be for you ‚N? , I said. ‚NsIt was Hell for me,- or not Hell, something worse then Hell. ‚N? ‚NsWhat could be worse then Hell ‚N? he said. ‚NsPurgatory, ‚N? I said. ‚Ns It ‚a„? s i nteresting that he says that, because that proves right there that Howard Campbell is very aware of the crimes he ‚a„? s committed, the difference between right and wrong, good and bad. He knows that he is there in that cell because he is paying the price. He must suffer for all that he has done. ‚NsI was deposited on to the streets of New York, restored to the mainstream of life. I took several steps down the sidewalk when something happened. It was not guilt that froze me; I had taught myself never to feel guilt. It wasn’t the fear of death; I had taught myself to think of death as a friend. It was not the thought of being unloved that froze me; I had taught myself to do without love. What froze me was the fact that I had absolutely no reason to move in any direction. What had made me move through so many dead and pointless years was curiosity. Now even that flickered out. ‚N? What a lonely life that must be, to feel you have nothing to live for. To know that all that has kept you going in the past was curiosity. Helga is dead, (or so he assumes) Resi is dead, the man he called his best friend had intentions of betraying him for so long, and now he is gone. People hate him, want to kill him, others think he is dead and are glad, and then there are those that admire him for all the terrible things he ‚a„? s done. Though he can ‚a„? t even seem to feel proud, because unlike so many others who committed such crimes as his, he is not a sociopath. How to cite Night Mother by Kurt Vonnegut, Essay examples

Invisible Man Essays - Invisible Man, Brotherhood,

Invisible Man 1. In the Emerson's paint factory, the narrator first gets a job adding dope to bad paint and then is sent to work down in the basement of a building, where the oils for the paint are produced. The then gets into a fight with his foreman, and neglects his job of watching pressure gauges. His neglecting causes an explosion at Emerson's Paint factory and he is injured in the blast, and has to be taken to the hospital. 2. Brother Jack was the leader of the Brother hood. He was the one who sought out the narrator to become part of the Brotherhood. Tod Clifton was the youth leader of the Brotherhood. Tod was black and a handsum man, who lead the youth section of the Brotherhood, but in the end he betrayed the Brotherhood. Ras the Exhorter was a man against the Brotherhood. He wanted black versus white hate and was opposed to all the Brotherhood was up to. Sybil was a women in the Brotherhood, who was married. The narrator wanted to suduce her to find out what she knew, but she turned out to know nothing at all. 3. The symbolic significance of Mary's cast-iron coin bank is of what black people stand for to white people. The coin bank made the narrator angry, because it was symbolic of blacks, being slaves to white people, and how some white people though of black people as entertainment, and were not actually people but where just animals. 4. I believe that the narrator was unnamed for two reasons. One being that most of the novel was a flash back to things that had happened and he was explaining about himself, and we didn't need to know his name since we knew so much about him. Secondly because of the title of the book Invisible being mysterious, and to follow that the author decided not to tell the readers the narrators name to follow the mystery of the title. 5. The Brotherhood was an organization of people who believed in total unity of all of the races. Their purpose was to organize together as brothers and make every one of all nationalities and colors be in peace with each other, to respect every race as friends, as brothers.

buy custom Mobile Telecommunications in a World essay

buy custom Mobile Telecommunications in a World essay Nokia has been beaten by Apple Inc to become the largest Smartphone manufacturing company in the world. In the second quarter of this year, a financial performance review was conducted and the companys revenue fell by 7 percent. Reports have shown that Nokia has been lagging behind in the Smartphone market. It has been confirmed that Nokias position has began to falter, a statement that was read in February. This was verified when a memo was sent to the Nokia staff. It had contained a vent talking about Nokias position in the Smartphone market, it was increasingly lagging behind. In July 25th 2011 it was quoted that there was no cell phone that had the equivalent of the Apple Inc product. Googles Android which was two years old was confirmed to occupy the second position in the Smartphone market. In the year 2010, Nokias market share was seen to decrease from 38 percent to 28 percent. Nokia has therefore lost the time to pursue the successes achieved by the iPhone and Android. This is because it has lagged behind the trend that has been established in the mobile phone market. Nokia was adopted by the Symbian Operating system which has been increasingly retarded thus leading to its criticism. In the current air, Nokia Smartphone shipments have fallen 34 percent to 16.7 Million units as compared to Apple which has sold more than 20 Million units of iPhone in the same period. (Curwen, 2011) Nokia has recently laid off to 700 employees in the UK; a step that was directed to saving the companys set targets. Since the late 1990s, Nokia has already been entrenched in the first ranking when it had won a competition against Motorola. It has actually been known as a winner in the simple mobile market where as Apple Inc consists of a Co business that was originally on the computer. Apple Inc began introducing the Smartphone iPhone. Radical changes has been effected by the Nokias hief executive as its fourth quarter results have portrayed that it has rapidly lost ground to the Smartphone makers using Apple and Googles Android Operating system. Nokia is working very hard so as to adopt with the changing markets. Results of Nokia Sales Net Profit Earnings per share Dividend 12.7 Billion 745 Million 0.2 0.4 An increase of 6% A decrease of 21% A decrease of 31% n/c So as to try and improve the Finnish companys weak sales in the US Nokia may try to use Operating systems made by Android or Microsofts Smartphones. Its shares have fallen almost 9 percent which portrays a confirmation of a steep decline in the Smartphone market share. Nokia has been unable to come up with mobile phones that can compete with Apple iPhone and Smartphones that use Googles Android Operating system, a procedure that has contributed greatly to its falling profitability. Its Operating profit has decreased from 1.47 Billion to 1.09 Billion which clearly shows its lagging nature in the phone market. (Pan, 2010) The Nokia Company has been expected to stick with its existing Symbian Operating system and MeeGo Smartphone Operating system in the majority of its Markets. However, for the US markets they aare expected to use the alternatives of Android or Microsofts Smartphone Operating system as explained earlier on. Android was earlier on rejected as it was claimed that its use could damage Nokias attempt of turning the fledgling MeeGO Operating system into a leading alternative to both the Apple and Google Smartphone platforms. Conclusion There are some significant challenges in Nokias competitiveness and their execution. The industry has greatly changed and thus they too have to change so as to compete with it, the changing industry. Nokia should come up with a competitive smart phone that can incorporate a number of factors. These factors may include the following: a user friendly hardware, software and services. Comparison of Nokias financial performance with the bench market Irrespective of losing the market share and the change in their strategies, Nokia is still the company that has the biggest share in the mobile device market. It owns a total of 22.8 percent of the mobile device market. Samsung comes in closely and has been confirmed to be the second company in the market with a total of 16.3 percent of the market share. There are a couple of other major handset manufacturing companies that come after this two. They include: LG, Apple, RIM, Motorola, and Sony Ericson. The other companies take approximately 35.8 percent of the market share. (Leonard, 2010) However, a different situation occurs in the Smartphone market whereby Android is in a good position in this market where it takes about 43.4 percent of the Smartphone operating system market. Apples iPhone operating system also comes in with 18.2 percent of the market share. Symbian, an operating system that has adopted Nokia takes 22.1 percent of the recent market although this number has been confirmed to decrease from quarter to quarter. Complete List of IB Schools in the USA, by State

Complete List of IB Schools in the USA, by State SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips As a former IB student, I highly recommend the IB Diploma Programme. I think I was far better prepared for college than my non-IB counterparts. I had been prepared to think critically and globally. If you are a parent or student interested in enrolling in an IB Diploma Programme, this article is for you. I've compiled a list of all the IB Diploma Programme Schools in the United States and arranged them by State. I have also provided several of the school’s Diploma Rate. The Diploma Rate is determined by the percentage of the students who receive IB diplomas out of those who were diploma candidates. Not all students who pursue an IB Diploma will receive the degree; you must complete certain qualification (achieve certain test scores and complete certain projects to a satisfactory level). For more information on this, check out our other article, What is the IB Program? And What are IB Classes? How to Use This Information First and foremost, you should use this information to locate the IB Diploma Programme School nearest you. If you are lucky enough to have a couple of IB Diploma Programme Schools in your area or if you are simply trying to decide between an IB and non-IB schools, then you should compare the two using a couple of data points. What Questions Should I Ask When Comparing IB Schools or an IB and Non-IB School? If you are comparing two or more IB Diploma Programme Schools (or an IB School with a non-IB School), I recommend emailing the IB coordinator at each school (you can contact them through the school’s hyperlink below) and asking for: The school’s IB Diploma Rate (mentioned above, but again, this is the number of students who received IB Diploma out of all of the IB Diploma candidates at that school) However, this should not be the be all end all. According to one IB coordinator, â€Å"IB allows schools to not count some students’ scores, so the school will not drop the student in order to help their percentage.† So, the rate may not be reflective of the whole school’s performance. What is the admission criteria for their IB Programme (usually it differs from the High School’s overall admission criteria) The overall graduation rate How many graduates are headed to 4-year schools You should also look at how long they have been an IB School (the older school’s tend to have better teachers and Diploma Rates) You can find this information on the IBO school page (simply click the hyperlinked school name and you are there). If you are comparing an IB School to a non-IB School, email someone in the administration at the non-IB School and ask for: the overall graduation rate how many graduates are headed to 4-year schools the admissions criteria The answer to these questions are important, and if the IB coordinator/administrator is not willing to answer them, you should be wary of the school (Most likely, it means they are performing poorly in one or all of these categories). I am going to do a sample comparison between Pedro Menendez High School in St. Augustine, FL, and St. Petersburg School in St. Petersburg, FL, using the information I have: IB Diploma Rate, how long they have been an IB School, and IB Programme Admission Criteria. High School Pedro Menendez High School St. Peterburg School Diploma Rate 52% 90% IB Programme Started 2010 (First IB Graduating Class in 20) 1983 IB Programme Admissions Criteria Pre-IB classes in 9th and 10th grade in English, Spanish, Science, and Mathematics Writing sample Pre†requisite courses: Algebra 1 Honors Test scores: (public school students) READING: 6th or 7th grade FSA (Florida Assessment Test) score of 352 or higher AND MATH 6th grade FSA score of 347 or higher OR 7th grade FSA score of 347 or higher 6th 7th grade Final Academic Grades (math, science, social studies, English, world language) of A’s B’s. 8th grade Semester Academic Grades (subjects listed above) A’s B’s Students who do not meet the above testing or academic grades criteria may be placed in this group based on a common rubric that is used to calculate the percentage of criteria the student has demonstrated. At least 10% of the incoming 9th grade class will not meet all of the qualifications. Based on the information given, if my child or I met the qualifications for St. Petersburg High School, I would choose to attend their program given the fact that their IB programme is over 30 years old, and the IB Diploma Rate is so high. The school clearly knows the IB Programme well, and you or your child is much more likely to receive their IB Diploma if they attend this school. Receiving your IB Diploma will help you get college credit and save money down the road at your university. Read more about this in our other article, What is the IB Program? And What are IB Classes? Research and Analysis of Business Problems Essay - 2

Research and Analysis of Business Problems - Essay Example , the superficial view is quite deceptive as the company is facing challenges in the forms of union problems, huge debts and environmental ripples like price rise, etc. In this report I have presented an overview of the problems and tried to evaluate and analyze them. The prime problem at Ford is its debt. Concerned about the financials of the company, the management has decided to reduce the existing workforce in order to reduce the annual payroll budget and thus achieve some financial relief. This in turn has triggered employee unrest and has troubled the management-union relationship at Ford. It has been suggested that the company should take to brainstorming sessions through joint management councils to sort out problems and adopt a collaborative approach to find the solutions. Collective bargaining should be patronized to appease the employees and white collar compensation should be reduced to gain their confidence. The company should divest and at the same time protect employee rights through regulatory contracts. Ford Motor Company (Ford), headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, is a global leader in the automotive industry. The company has manufacturing facilities and distribution network spread over six continents. Globally it has 90 plants a workforce of more than 200000 employees (Ford Motor Company-a, n.d., â€Å"Ford Global†). Currently the company follows General Motors (GM) and stands at second position in terms of sales volume (Freep-a, 2010, â€Å"January Auto Sales†). The corporate goal of Ford, as reflected through its mission statement, is "to become the worlds leading Consumer Company for automotive products and services" (Samples-Help, 2006, â€Å"Ford Motor Company Mission Statement†). Ford has also encapsulated its organizational plans and goals in the form of â€Å"One Ford Mission† (Ford-a, n.d., â€Å"One Ford†). According to this composite statement, Ford wants to work as a goal oriented team which strives to attain automotive leadership

Comedy, Culture and the Media Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3750 words

Comedy, Culture and the Media - Essay Example As will hopefully become clear from this Comedy Portfolio good, bad, or even indifferent comedy has the capacity to influence, as well as reflect popular culture through its presentation and its subsequent transmission by the mass media. To a very large extent it could be reasonably argued that with out the mass media to communicate, spread, and promote comedy it would be more difficult for comic performances, shows and other works to have any significant level of cultural impact. Difficult but not completely impossible as there are arguably stronger indicators that there was a strong relationship between comedy and culture long before the media became as widespread and diverse as it is within contemporary societies.1 The comedy genre itself can be traced back to Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. The Greeks and the Romans used comedy techniques to make their theatre audiences’ laugh and enjoy themselves. The comedies of the Greeks and the Romans tended to leave any serious messages until the very last act, whilst making sure that was always a happy ending. Another feature of the early Greek and Roman comedies was that they were written in such a way to be an accurate depiction of their contemporary cultures and societies. Greek and Roman comics thought that basing their comedies on their respective societies meant that their audiences found the humour and the messages within the plays relevant to their lives.2 Audiences that understand the settings of comedies are more likely to grasp the humour and the serious messages within those comedies, a logical conclusion reached by both the Greeks and the Romans. Contemporary comedy authors, creators, and performers predominantly stick with the concept of producing relevant comic material that its intended audiences should grasp immediately.3 As a distinct genre comedy

Abortion Essay -- essays research papers

Partial-Birth Abortion Act During the Clinton administration the Partial-Birth Abortion Act, a bill that would make it illegal in all of the United States for a partial-birth abortion to be performed, caused major debate throughout the House of Representatives and the Senate; recently different versions of the bill had been passed through the both the House of Representatives and the Senate. In prior years Clinton had vetoed similar bills to ban partial-birth abortions. The House and Senate have passed somewhat different versions of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act (S-1692), sponsored by Congressman Charles Canady (R-Fl.) and Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.). This bill would place a national ban on partial-birth abortions. President Clinton successfully vetoed similar bills in 1996 and 1998. When the Senate approved S.1692 last October, it was by a margin two votes short of the two-thirds majority needed to override a veto. The congressional bills are similar to a Nebraska law that was struck down by a five-justice majority of the U.S. Supreme Court on June 28 in the case of Stenberg v. carhart. After carefully examining that ruling, the leading sponsors of the bill decided that it would be more productive to focus on other pro-life bills for the remainder of this congressional session. (National Right to Life News, August 2000) Partial-Birth Abortion is used after twenty weeks of pregnancy. The doctor pulls the baby out of the mother with forceps feet first and stops when the only thing remaining inside the mother is the baby’s head. The doctor then takes a pair of scissors and inserts them into the back of the neck of the child, spreads them apart and then proceeds to suction the brain of the child out of it’s head. The child is now no longer living and can be disposed of. Under current legislation the only factor that separates partial-birth abortion from homicide is the fact that the child’s head remains inside the mother while the procedure is performed. The Partial-Birth Abortion Act is not a bill to make abortion illegal just partial-birth abortions. Those who support this bill in the Senate are pro-life, whil... ...ter, June 2001) The laws were overturned by the United States Court of Appeals in Illinois and Wisconsin following the Supreme Court’s lead. United States District Judge Arthur Tarnow overturned the ban in Michigan. Planned Parenthood had challenged the laws in all three states and was said to be gratified by the decisions. â€Å"We are pleased with these rulings because they protect women’s health from being sacrificed to a dishonest campaign to demonize a safe and medically necessary procedure.† Planned Parenthood continued," And we are reminded again, as all Americans should be, of the importance of a fair-minded and independent federal judiciary.† Another problem with the ban on partial-birth abortions is what to do in the case of a health threat involving the mother. If a pregnant women faces death through the birth of her child do we save the mother or the child? Another problematic example is if the mother already has children, and partial-birth abortions are illegal, the child could potentially be born and the mother could pass leaving all of her children to grow up without a mother.

Look at the beginning of act two Essay

And doesn’t eat herself since she has presumably eaten with the children. In those times, (1692) wives were expected to stay at home, clean the house, cook the food, take care of the children, and obey their husbands. They were also expected to be good Christians, be calm, quiet etc. To express these qualities above, Elizabeth should probably dress in quite plain, conservative clothes, and † walk straight, eyes slightly lowered, arms at the sides, and talk quietly. † He then compliments her about the rabbit, â€Å"It’s well seasoned†, and she receives it, ‘blushing with pleasure’. She then adds, that she â€Å"took great care. † Again, both are trying hard to be friendly to each other, to try to avoid argument. It is however; ironic that Proctor complimented her on the seasoning on the rabbit, since he seasoned it himself. After that, he talks about the farm and says with a grin â€Å"I mean to please you Elizabeth. † And she answers, â€Å"I know it John. † However, before she answers, she pauses, and â€Å"finds it hard to say. † This means that she might not think he honestly wants to please her, or make their marriage work. Since this is quite a dramatic moment, I think the lighting should focus on her at this point, and if present the orchestra should be silent to emphasize her hesitation. The author then repeats Elizabeth’s lack of love and coldness when John proctor gets up and kisses her, and then returns disappointed. This is so that if the audience misses the pause, thus showing her disbelief and distrust in him, they will see her total lack in passion and love when John is rejected from Elizabeth,. He then asks her for some cider, as gently as he can, since he feels she is hurt, and doesn’t want to make her feel any worse. He then says, â€Å"Its winter in here yet,† which might be a hint for her to warm her heart and become more loving. Yet since her badly wants to be nice, he asks her on type of date, to walk across the farm. They both get up, and he walks to the door, and he seems quite happy. She however, isn’t. He seems to notice this, and asks her if she is sad again. As they say these last lines, I think that ‘the sense of their separation’ should be emphasised be lighting. Ie, the lights, which have been directed at both of them together so far, should split, a light on each character. This would subtly hint to the audience that although they are desperately striving to make their marriage work, it can’t yet because there is a distance between them, and they’re not on the same wavelength. The audience can also see this when John seems deep in his thoughts about spring, flowers, and Massachusetts, while Elizabeth seems to worry about something. She answers to his question, â€Å"Are you sad again† and immediately justifies her answer when she says that she thought he had gone to Salem since he was back so late. This could show the audience that she thought he had gone to see Abigail, because they know Abigail lives in Salem from what they saw in act one. He knows that she thought of him going to see Abigail, so he says he has no business in Salem. This shows the audience, that although he is eager to let go of the past, (which is also shown in act one â€Å"I will cut my hand off before I ever reach for you (Abigail) again. â€Å") Elizabeth has not yet forgiven him, which he accuses her of later. â€Å"You forgive nothing’ and forget nothin’! † She then admits to having let Mary go to Salem and this makes him quite angry. However, when she carries on he starts shouting at her ‘holding back a full condemnation of her’ and says that she should control her servants better. Perhaps he also thinks that she should have controlled Abigail, so he wouldn’t have had an affair with her. Basically, in this part of Act Two, the author shows that the strain in their relationship was caused by his affair with Abigail, which has resulted with her distrust. Miller also shows that Proctor quickly raises his temper, which could also strain a relationship. Proctor only seems to have raised his temper when Abigail and his affair with her are mentioned. This could be because he feels guilty. Knowing what parts of the act give hints to their difficult relationship helps tremendously when the play is performed, since the director knows what parts of the act he must emphasise. He can do that by using different lighting, sound effects, dramatic music from an orchestra, acting, and pauses. Essay on importance of reflective practice - 1556 Words

A load of research has been done on learning and reflective practice and its effectiveness on the practitioners and one of the first people to research reflective Practice was Donald Schon in his book â€Å"The Reflective Practitioner† in 1983. Schon was an influential writer on reflection and had two main ways of identifying reflection and they were reflection in action and reflection on action. â€Å"The practitioner allows himself to experience surprise, puzzlement, or confusion in a situation which he finds uncertain or unique. He reflects on the phenomenon before him, and on the prior understandings which have been implicit in his behaviour.
